Communication
When you call us -
Our lawyers represent many clients. They have well managed calendars and have set times for appointments, phone calls, reading, thinking, drafting, attending court, mediations, and meeting deadlines. When they are focused on your matter, they give it their full attention and need uninterrupted time. This ensures our clients obtain the best results possible and obtain excellent value for money.
Lawyers, like a doctor/dentist/or teacher have every minute of their day scheduled. Our lawyers are also constantly prioritising matters across all of their files to meet important deadlines and unexpected urgent events. Our clients understand they need to book a phone appointment (or face to face/video/teams appointment) if they wish to speak with their lawyer. Appointments can be made with the secretary/paralegal in the department that is assisting you (Family law - Compensation Claims - Wills and Probate). If your call is urgent our paralegals will ensure a message if sent to your lawyer.
If we call you -
If your lawyer calls you, it will mean something important has come up on your matter and they need to talk to you as soon as possible. It is always in your best interests to take the call or return it as soon as possible. This will ensure the swift progression of your matter.
Emails - BE WARY
We treat emails as letters and will take time to digest the contents, consider it's urgency, and to consider and write our response. We receive dozens of emails each day, and like receiving letters, it is physically impossible to respond in an hour, or on the same day, or even that week. We will respond to your email as soon as we can though, and very quickly if we think it needs urgent attention.
Please also be careful of what information you send in an email. Emails are not safe and can be hacked. We have security measures in place on our mailboxes - however we have no control over the security you may have on yours. If your settings are not secure, your mailbox could be hacked and the hacker may impersonate us (as they can see emails you have received from us) or someone else. We never recommend sending important documents via email. If you do - they will likely be blocked by our security. Documents should be uploaded to the secure lawconnect portal we have set up for clients.

Our History
We look back and are grateful that Pat O’Shea and Mark Dyer formed O'Shea & Dyer Solicitors, back in 1983. Pat and Mark were excellent lawyers who assisted people in the Townsville community, providing them with quality, affordable, legal services for many years. Pat O’Shea retired in 2008 and Mark Dyer in 2014. OSD became incorporated in 2013 with Ivan Baxter as the sole director.
We are proud to say that for over 40 years, OSD has provided quality and affordable legal services to people in Townsville and North Queensland and that we have people in our team, like Shelleigh Naessens and Robyn Mullins who have been with us for more than 25 of those years.
